Graco Baby Products
Graco baby products have been used in households for over 60 years and still remains as the leading maker of
child products in the world. In 1942, Russell Gray and Robert Cone fashioned Graco Metal Products, in Philadelphia, PA. For the next 11 years, the firm fabricated machine and car parts for neighboring manufacturers. In 1953, Gray left the company, leaving Cone as sole owner. Cone decided to fabricate his own line of products. That is where David Saint, an engineer, inventor, and stained glass artisan who worked for Graco comes in to play.
Saint, a father of 9, had often watched his wife soothe a tired or irritable baby with their backyard swing. Inspired by this concept, Saint wanted to design a product to reproduce this effect on children. 18 months of hard work later, the planet’s first wind up infant swing, the Graco Swyngomatic®, was introduced to the world. Graco was rocketed in to the baby products business. Everyone knew they had a hit on their hands, and an enthusiastic Graco salesman predicted that 10,000 of the swings would sell to the public. But no one knew that Graco would sell not 10,000, but millions of Swyngomatics in the next upcoming years, becoming one of the world's leading manufacturers of juvenile products in the process. after that, whatever baby product category it entered, Graco set the standard.
