Baby Monitors

When it comes to baby monitors, the Sound N Lights type which operates at 49 MHz is all that most parents need to use.  It is also the least expensive in its class.  This model uses a lighting system which indicates the difference between a sign and a cry by the loudness of the sound.  Probably the only downfall with this inexpensive model is the static you hear in the background but most experts say that some interference is to be expected from most monitors.  For an extra ten dollars or so you can even get an extra receiver for this model.

The next model up from the basic is the Sony 900 MHz clear and near baby monitors.  The 900 MHz means much longer range and reception.  As with almost any product there are some drawbacks if you think hard enough.  This product operates at 900 MHz which is the same frequency that many cell phones and cordless phones operate on.  This means that there may be some bleed through and interference from these items.  The next class up of baby monitors is the 2.4 GHz baby monitors.  Here again we have a bump in frequency which means that reception is better.  As cell phone and computer wireless products continue to go higher in frequency there will be just as much interference as with the 900 MHz type baby monitors but for now these work great.  The range for these higher end sound type of baby monitors will continue to increase so you can relax by the pool and do some yard work while your infant sleeps.

There are newer types of baby monitors than just audible types these days.  There are motion sensor monitors as well.  These baby monitors go well beyond the traditional baby monitors and may actually help a new parent to sleep better knowing that everything is ok with their child.  it is very neat as to how some of these types of monitors work.  For example, the Angel care features a sensor pad that is located beneath the baby so that it detects even the slightest movement and there is also an alarm that sounds if there is no movement for twenty seconds or so.  For preemies or children with health problems that need to be closely monitored then this is a very good choice.  For most families this type of monitor may be too much but it is great to know that they exist.

Last but not least there are the newer video baby monitors that can not only detect sound but you can see them as they sleep and play.  When you are training them to stay in their crib this product works great so you can keep an eye on them while you are not in visible sight of them.  The very best of the video monitors is the mobicam baby monitors which comes with a 2.4 GHz hand held receiver with a small color screen.  The range is about 300 feet which means you can be very far away and still see the child.  The transmitter unit has a small globe shaped camera which can be switched to infrared mode for night time viewing.  You can expand this system to control up to three different cameras as well and still use the same monitor.
